Enrolments for the new class at Romsey Neighbourhood house open on the 15th January. Places are limited to 15 so give them a call on 5429 6724 to reserve your place. You can find them also on Facebook, their website is in progress. See previous post for more details.

What to wear: Comfortable stretchy clothes and dance shoes like Jazz ballet shoes, barefoot is also appropriate.  Sneakers tend to stick to the floor which makes it harder for some of the movements.  If you need to wear your orthotics, you can.

Bring a bottle of water, an exercise mat and a hip belt (beaded or coins) if you have one.

Term 3 brings with it a plethora of bad weather conditions like extreme cold and winds, rain, fog and sometimes snow. With this in mind I do not conduct night classes in Woodend in term 3 only.  This year I have also decided for 3rd term only to conduct day classes across the board as numbers decrease with the very cold and windy weather. I hope this may encourage more people to come out during the day and do some fun and empowering, body toning and fitness exercise that is suitable for all shapes, sizes and levels of fitness.  Even if you have limited movement I can modify it for you.  Read my article on the Bio page to see read how belly dance helped me recover from a serious car accident.

Much Love, Deb

Term 2 ending and changes for Term 3

Reminder that there is NO CLASS on 12th June Queens Birthday this only affects the Monday classes. Wednesday class will run as per normal. The remainder of term two has 2 weeks left for the Monday classes and 3 weeks left for the Wednesday class.

At the moment I feel like a proud mum, the Troupe have finished learning their 5.20 minute Classical Egyptian choreography using a prop I call Nell-wings (named after one of the Troupe members).  Our final 2 weeks in Troupe will be used to polish this exquisite routine.  Term 3 will see the Troupe learning Tea Candle technique and combinations with future opportunity for a choreography using this prop.

Gisborne class have been refining their Level 1 & 2 techniques and will be receiving a Certificate of Achievement at the end of this term.  Don’t tell them – it’s a surprise.  In Term 3 the Gisborne group will be furthering their technique and learning Khaleegi a folkloric style from the Arabian Gulf.

Beginners will be gaining skills in foundational techniques and taught how to build upon them within the term.  They will also get an introduction to the beautiful art of dancing with a belly dance veil.

Class update

This week (28th Mar) concludes our short belly dance course; Term 1 has been a fun term.  It was so pleasing to see so many new and enthusiastic ladies coming along to the Gisborne, Woodend and Bacchus Marsh classes.

I welcome you to Mystical Rose Belly Dance and look forward to designing classes for the many body shapes and fitness levels, including those with medical conditions and past injuries or weakened areas.

I applaud a special lady who is so excited to come to class; she is battling Parkinson’s and enjoys the class with the movements that I have modified for her.  Read her testimonial:  You certainly have got me moving during the time I’ve been coming to belly dancing.  I know I don’t always get the moves right but you are always very patient.  The exercise and dance routines are giving me more energy and I feel better for this.

Another lady who struggles with depression and Asthma should also be applauded as she also manages to get to class most weeks and gives it her all when she is there.  She often asks me can we do more of ‘this or that’ displaying to me that she is enjoying what she is learning in bellydance.

Last but not least I want to recognise the ladies that have been regulars in my classes for many years, some of them have been coming up to 14 years.  Those students often attend offsite workshops and interstate belly dance training weekends, some of them even came to Egypt with me in 2009.

Thank you – this means that I’m still fostering a sustainable learning program.

It is so nice to hear the feedback on how and in what way physically and emotionally, how belly dance has improved your life.

My mission is to inspire you to ‘Keep trying – despite limitations’, to strive for what you want to achieve.  Through dance you can not only have a tonne of fun but you can find a sense of community and self acceptance that’s worth striving for.

On another note Term 2 will commence 24th April for 9 weeks Monday $144, no class on Queens Birthday & 10 weeks for Wednesday $160.  All details will be posted to the classes’ page once Term 1 is finished.

Registrations for Term 2 will open on 31st March.
